Sean Brady Is Saying What We Are All Thinking About Leon Edwards

UFC Fight Night in London features a great bout between Leon Edwards and Sean Brady.

Brady is 7-1 in the UFC and will be taking on Leon Edwards in a welterweight battle to be the number one contender.

Brady discussed how he is an entirely different type of animal than Edwards is used to when it comes to grappling.

“A lot of those guys are strictly wrestlers,” Brady told reporters at UFC Fight Night 255 media day. “Like Colby’s a wrestler, Kamaru’s a wrestler. If you look at their records, none of them really have submissions.

“I just think I’m like a much bigger submission threat than a lot of the guys he’s fought, and I think I’m the biggest submission threat in the division. So, I’m a different level of grappler.”

Brady Isn’t Thinking About the Future

During his appearance in front of the media, Brady said that he isn’t thinking about the implications of what happens if he wins the fight. All he’s focused on is Leon Edwards, and he wants his hand raised.

“I’m not trying to get a title shot out of this,” Brady said. “I’m not trying to rush it. That’s what I did before in my career. I went into the Belal (Muhammad) fight pushing for it so hard and it turned out that wasn’t the night for me. So, I’m going to go out there, I’m going to do my job, get my hand raised by any means necessary, and then wherever I go from there, I go.”

Then Brady said something that I think many fight fans were thinking about: Leon Edwards seems to be only talking about his loss to Belal and not his fight with Brady.

“I think that’s a bad look on Leon to be thinking about other people when all I’m thinking about is fighting him,” Brady said. “He’s thinking about No. 1 contenders, and getting back at Belal, and talking sh*t about Belal. But he’s got someone who’s trying to kill him Saturday night in front of him, and he has more things to be concerned about than being a No. 1 contender in the division.”

Brady’s right. It seems like Leon is distracted by a rematch with Belal and not focusing on a very hungry fighter who is right in front of him.
In a sport where anyone can get caught at any time, Leon Edwards should stay focused on Brady, not Belal.
Of all people in the sport, Edwards should know this. After all, he was losing to Usman when, in the fifth round, he cracked in the head with a beautiful kick and became champ. Usman was on his bike trying to get through the fight, knowing he had done enough to win when Leon caught him.
If Edwards isn’t careful, Brady will catch him in an early submission for not taking him seriously.
Additionally, according to Vegas, Edwards is (as of this post) the underdog in this fight.
