  • UFC Champ Calls Out McGregor — And It Actually Makes Sense. But Will Conor Say Yes?

I must say I really like the idea of this, and if there was a fight that would be good for both fighters, it’s this.

We may want to prepare ourselves for Alexander Volkanovski vs. Conor McGregor.

UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski isn’t just talking title defenses — he’s setting his sights on the biggest name in MMA history: Conor McGregor.

Fresh off reclaiming his 145-pound title with a win over Diego Lopes, Volkanovski is already mapping out his next big move. And in a recent appearance on The Unscripted Show, the Aussie powerhouse didn’t mince words about who he wants next.

“Probably Conor, man,” Volkanovski said when asked who he’d want to fight. “A lot of people are gonna sit there and be like, ‘Oh yeah, Conor is a boring answer’ — but he was in the featherweight division, that era when he was just an absolute superstar.”

He’s not wrong. At his peak, McGregor electrified the featherweight division — capturing the belt with a record-breaking 13-second knockout over José Aldo and becoming a crossover global icon. And while that version of McGregor may be long gone, the name still carries weight.

Volkanovski knows it — and he’s not afraid to say it.

“When we talk about money and all of that… that’s one fast track to getting people to notice you,” Volk explained, making it clear that fighting McGregor is as much a business decision as a competitive one.

But he didn’t stop there. Volkanovski even gave McGregor his flowers.

“He was a good fighter, he was a great fighter,” Volkanovski continued. “He had great timing, great setups, good understanding of what works… and yeah, he was sharp.”

Still, Volk made it clear: those days are over.

“A lot of that is gone now… he’s probably gonna be reasonably sharp but he’s never gonna be the same Conor McGregor.”

Translation? Volk wants the payday, the platform, and the scalp — and he’s confident he can take it.

While McGregor’s long-awaited return still hangs in limbo, and Volkanovski reigns supreme in the featherweight kingdom, fans are already buzzing about what could be the next big UFC mega-event. Volk had no issues fighting at lightweight because there’s no way McGregor could get to featherweight at his age. This fight will either take place at catchweight or lightweight.

Look, this is the perfect fight for McGregor to return, and if he doesn’t take it, he’s not coming back.

It’s the kind of clash that sells out arenas and headlines pay-per-views and it makes sense for both fighters. Now it’s just a matter of whether McGregor can muster up the guts actually to fight.
