  • The Biggest Problem Facing the UFC Isn’t Dana or Talent—It’s Deeper and Raises Serious Questions

There’s been a lot of bluster over UFC boss Dana White.

First off, a lot of it has to do with politics. Once you appear publicly with President Donald Trump, you immediately create division and give some people an axe to grind.

Another reason why people go after Dana White is because he’s hugely successful in a world that really struggles to make a profit. White cut out a lot of people in the fight world to make the UFC what it is and now he’s trying to do that slowly in boxing. That make a lot of people angry.

Lastly, for some reason people really enjoy tearing down incredibly successful icons. For example, everyone enjoyed clowning on the New England Patriots on their run, or people hating on the New York Yankees.

Is Dana perfect?

Clearly no. The entire Jon Jones situation is a fantastic example of that.

Others have said that the UFC isn’t as great as it once was because the fighters don’t have the same quality as previous generations.

From the outside, that’s a fair assessment; however, we must examine the UFC a bit more deeply.

Let me break this down, and I say this as a fight fan. When I watch the UFC, I want to see quality fights, and I don’t care what the level of experience is of the two fighters in the octagon. because if it’s two low level guys that compliment each other well you are going to get a good fight. Good fights make stars, stars produce quality content and generate money.

Which brings us to the UFC matchmakers.

They stink right now.

I watch the fight nights to include the undercards all the time and the matchups are just vanilla. I know some people may disagree with me about the mediocre talent can still create good fights.

The 2020-2021 era of UFC was full of mediocre talent. Dana capitalized on being the only sports organization operating and was grabbing any MMA fighter he could get his hands on to fill the cards.

We got good fights and we got new stars.

For example, Kevin Holland.

He’s not the best there is but boy is he fun to watch and that’s what we want.

Dana needs to hop into his match-making department and clean house.

Let’s get back to good quality fights.
