They may only be teenagers, but two of the world’s toughest female competitors met at the IBJJF Pan Championship 2025 in Orlando, Florida, and boy, did they put on a show.
Both Sarah Galvao and Helena Crevar met in the brown belt division and are both well-established in the sport, scoring victories in other matches over black belts.
It’s not often that these two meet, as they are in different weight classes. Sarah Galvoa competes at lightweight, and Crevar is in the medium-heavyweight division. Both had already won their weight divisions and competed in the absolute.
Galvao put on a pressure-passing clinic and then applied heavy top pressure to control Crevar. In moments throughout the match, Crevar could retain her guard, but Galvao just kept coming slowly and methodically.
The real difference was that Galvao never let Crevar get on the offensive and always made sure she was on the defensive. Only once, late in the match, was Crevar able to get to her feet, only to pull guard again, which put her in the same terrible position.
In the end, Galvao won the match 6-0, which eliminated Crevar from the absolute.
The win guaranteed Galvao a medal; however, she lost to super-heavyweight silver medalist Luane Correia, thereby earning the bronze.Flo Grappling was nice enough to throw us some crumbs and post the match, and you’ll see Galvao just shut Crevar down.
Now, could Galvao shut Crevar down like that in nogi? Probably not but after this win over Crevar let’s hope we get to find out.
